Vasileios Kozobolis was born in Athens and earned his Medical Degree with honors from the University of Messina, Italy.
He then specialized in Ophthalmology at Hippocrates Hospital in Athens.
He worked for a decade as a consultant at the University Hospital of Heraklion, Crete, and was also a member for ten years of the research team at the Vardinogiannis Eye Transplantation & Microsurgery Laboratory (VEMMO), developing expertise in glaucoma and refractive surgery.
He earned a PhD from the University of Crete (Exfoliation Syndrome and Exfoliation Glaucoma / with honors).
He completed further training at Wellington Hospital, London, UK (1995); Jules Gonin Eye Hospital, Lausanne, Switzerland; and University Eye Clinic, Verona, Italy (1997).
In 2002, he became Professor at Democritus University of Thrace and Director of its University Ophthalmology Clinic, which he organized from scratch.
He founded and structured the Corneal Transplantation Department and the Eye Bank. He also established the Hellenic Center for Research & Therapy of Eye Diseases (ELKETHOP).
He created and serves as Scientific Director of the MSc program “Imaging in Ophthalmology.”
He holds two international patents (OBI & European Patent Office) for an intraocular tonometer.
In March 2021, he was appointed Professor at the Medical School of the University of Patras, with the goal of upgrading the University Ophthalmology Clinic at Rio University Hospital.
He is a member of international research societies, including the Lindberg Society, Exfoliation Special Interest Group, and the European Eye Bank Association.
He founded a new conference initiative: the “Interuniversity Ophthalmology Conference.”

He serves as a reviewer for more than 15 high-impact scientific journals and is on the Editorial Board of several of them.
He has authored book chapters in international scientific texts covering pharmaceutical and surgical management of glaucoma and exfoliation syndrome (European Glaucoma Society, etc.), keratoconus therapy, and applications of corneal cross-linking. He has also been an invited speaker, moderator, or trainer in numerous conferences in Greece and abroad.
Finally, he has proposed new surgical techniques for glaucoma to the international scientific community.
